Ugo Humbert was undefeated in the final matches before another one at the 2024 Dubai Championships, and he remained undefeated by besting Alexander Bublik in the final.
Humbert is a very interesting player who is incredibly streaky, and it's why he generally finishes off his good weeks with trophies. Before this final, Humbert never lost a final, which shows that when he has a good week, it's a really good week.
This one was certainly good for the Frenchman, as the wins over Hubert Hurkacz and Daniil Medvedev prove. It was certainly a good week for Bublik who bested Andrey Rublev to find his place in the final but he couldn't quite get it done in the final match.
The story is all too familiar with Bublik. He failed to create an early advantage in the match and when Humbert was finally able to find a breakthrough then Bublik couldn't respond. The first set was a close one but eventually Humbert steadiness was able to get the job done.
The first set ended with a late break, which set the score of 6-4 for the French player. The second set opened with an early break for Humbert, who was able to cruise after that.
Bublik was too erratic at times, especially with his serve, as he totaled six double faults across the match. He wasn't that bad form the baseline, quite good actually but not as good as Humbert who basically played an impossible match overall.
He had over 20 winners and fewer than five unforced errors, which looked like video game numbers. In any case the final score was 6-4, 6-3 for Humbert who wins yet another trophy and remains undefeated in finals.
Bublik isn't too unfamiliar with losing finals, but this will certainly be very annoying for the Kazakhstani player.
