Holger Rune recently shared his end-of-year post on social media, which included a list of goals for the upcoming season.
Rune broke the world's Top 10 for the first time in his young career at the 2022 Paris Masters when he shockingly defeated Novak Djokovic in the final. His exponential rise took him to a career-high ranking of World No. 4 - the highest peak of any Danish man in ATP history.
The 20-year-old is already looking ahead into the future, and it is so bright that it can almost hurt his eyes. Rune took to Instagram to send his best wishes for the new year but, most importantly, share his ambitions of eventually taking the next step in his career with his fans.
"I feel 2024 will be the year where I fully trust my skills, feel the freedom again and go 100 percent for the next level. I know what I want and I know what I am capable of when I want something bad enough. This year I reached a career high on rank 4 in the world. Let’s push the limits even further now. Happy New Year everyone!"
One way in which Rune will look to achieve gradual success on the ATP Tour is by having a capable coaching team. Having parted company with Patrick Mouratoglou following a stagnating period in the second half of last season, Rune appointed Novak Djokovic's ex-coach Boris Becker on a short-term contract.
The German former ATP player worked wonders for Rune's confidence and his self-belief, ending his dismal run by steering him to the semifinal of the Swiss Indoors and the last eight of the Paris Masters. Becker also ensured Rune secured his spot at the ATP Finals for the first time.
Both parties were happy to extend their partnership into the new season, and Rune reserved special praise for his coaching team, which now includes a second man at the helm - Severin Luthi.
"Leaving 2023 I want to thank everyone helping me this year. Above all my family, my coaches, trainers, physical, physio, analyst, and sponsors. Everyone putting in the love and energy to help me achieving my dreams. Thank you, we are getting closer every year."
Rune is occasionally a combustible figure on a tennis court and has previously rubbed shoulders with tennis crowds on the wrong side. But he didn't fail to acknowledge their support and energy.
"This end year post is dedicated to my amazing supporters all over the world and to passion. I love to feel the mutual energy when I step on court and to share my passion with you. Passion is pure, it’s colourful and lively and it’s an expression without filter. Let’s always keep this fire alive."
