He posted a social media update where he let his fans know that he is back to training however he has elected not to play Wimbledon due to the rigours of best of 5 tennis.

Hello, I wanted to give you a quick update following my foot injury. I have started to train again this week and I have felt really good. I will now be able to increase gradually my training and spend more time on the court to get back in shape both from a physical and tennis point of view. Due to my recent return to training and because of the physical demands of grass court tennis / best of 5 matches.

It's a sensible decision from Monfils who will return to action in Hamburg on clay with Kitzbuhel planned in as well. Then he will turn his attention to the North American hard-court swing where he played with great success both last year and in the past.

Due to my recent return to training and because of the physical demands of grass court tennis / best of 5 matches. My team and I have taken the decision not to play Wimbledon this year. I will focus instead on my preparation to be ready for the summer. I will return to competition in Hamburg followed by Kizbuhel before travelling to the US. See you all soon, Gaël
