If you think tennis players don't follow along with what happens during a Grand Slam, you'd be wrong, at least regarding Carlos Alcaraz.
We've seen a few players confirm that they do follow along with what happens during an event. Daniil Medvedev confirmed that he sometimes watches the scores of other matches and keeps up with what has been happening at the events he plays. He's not the only one, though, as his fellow former world no. 1 on the ATP Tour has the same habit.
Roger Federer famously admitted earlier this year to checking scores while retired, and Carlos Alcaraz is another player that does the same thing. Speaking after his most recent win over Lloyd Harris at the 2023 US Open, Alcaraz said he keeps track of the scores during a Grand Slam because he loves it.
I'm watching that. I love watching the matches, following the scores. It doesn't matter if it's in the top part or the bottom part, I following all the results. I love Grand Slams 'cause there are a lot of matches. I'm almost full day watching scores. Yeah, I love watching all the matches.
When it comes to the match against Harris, Alcaraz was pretty happy about how it went. He played great and while he did have a drop in the 3rd set the overall performance was good.
Yeah, I think I played great, a great match. But obviously in the third set he started to play better. I got down a little bit. I need extra energy in the third set. I think that's normal. In a Grand Slam, matches are much longer. You need that extra energy that I need in the third set.
In the end, I think I play a pretty good match and I try to keep the same level into the next round.
