While Frances Tiafoe won't be present in the American Davis Cup team, he will play at the 2022 Laver Cup for Team World.
The 24-years-old American showed his best tennis at this year's US Open when he reached semifinals of the tournament and defeated the second-seeded Rafael Nadal. He will have a chance to face the 22-time Grand Slam champion once again as he will play at the 2022 Laver Cup.
Team World's line-up was already confirmed with all of the spots taken. However, John Isner sustained a wrist injury and so John McEnroe had to look for a replacement. With Nick Kyrgios announcing that he will not compete at the event this year due to his family, the American had only one choice and that was choosing his compatriot, Frances Tiafoe.
“I am thrilled to have Frances on the team,” said Captain John McEnroe. “He has raised his game to a whole new level and has shown that he can compete and win against the best players on Tour. Plus, he brings a positive energy that should help the entire team.”
"I love Laver Cup competition,” said Tiafoe. “It’s an incredible event and I hope I can win points for Team World in London this time. I know what to expect and I think we have a great chance this year of taking the title from Team Europe."
