Alex de Minaur told off a reporter after he asked him a question about Jannik Sinner wanting to focus on Team Australia at the 2023 Davis Cup Finals.
Alex de Minaur played his first match at the 2023 Davis Cup Final Eight showdown, and he won. It wasn't a win that came easily, as the Australian had to work hard and navigate a really tricky situation, but he won a crucial match that saved his country.
The doubles went Australia's way, allowing them to advance to the semi-final and keeping their title chances alive. They played at the event last year and made the final, so crashing out early would have been quite a disaster for them.
In any case, one reporter thought it'd be a great idea to ask de Minaur about Jannik Sinner. The Aussie wasn't particularly thrilled with that question and told off the reporter while praising the Italian as a player and person.
I mean, I feel like every time I talk to you you ask me about Jannik, and look, I really like Jannik. I think he's a great guy. I've got a lot of time for him, and I really enjoy playing doubles with him. Very happy for his success. He's an amazing player, and he's, I'm sure, got a lot more to fulfill in his career.
But I'm here. This is Team Australia. We've got the doubles to talk about. So I'll stick with that.
De Minaur isn't known as somebody who is fierce with his word, but he was within his right to recenter the conversation on the team and not Sinner.
The Italian plays on Thursday, so there will be plenty of time to talk about him and his recent rise. When it comes to de Minaur, he'll hope to push his country further in the competition in the coming days.
