Djokovic Takes Sly Dig At Nadal Amid Another Record-Extending Triumph

| by Evita Mueller

Novak Djokovic is not shy about his desire to break as many records as possible, which is in contrast to some of his rivals.

Reading between the lines is always tricky because sometimes you can spot some things that were meant that way. Either way, Djokovic made some interesting comments after winning the Paris Masters, comments some interpreted as a response to Rafael Nadal's recent comments.

Nadal recently did an interview on Spanish TV, admitting that he doesn't care much for records, certainly not as much as Djokovic. It was an interesting comment at the time, and as you can imagine, it didn't escape Djokovic either.

He made some comments that people interpret as a response to that. He's not shy about wanting to win as much as possible and break as many records as possible, unlike others.

I'm going for all possible records, all that I can break. I've never had a problem saying that. And that's why people don't like me. I didn't pretend like some people.. to say that it's not my goal, and then to behave differently after... I always tried to be in line with what I believe.

Djokovic on pursuing records

Fair play to Djokovic for admitting that because anything else would be pretty silly. You don't go to the extreme as some of these guys because you don't care.

Not caring looks a bit different, especially at his age. Regarding the records, there are a few more he could get. The most trophies ever is certainly one has in his sights, but it's a complicated one.

As far as the record for the number of ATP tournaments won is concerned, everything is possible. Why shouldn't I try to break that record too? Now I have 12 less [than Connors] but I also have a few more years of successful tennis.

I try to enjoy these moments that now mean and are worth double. When you consider the stage of my life & career that I am in, and winning such a big tournament. Although it may seem like a routine to people, every win at the Masters and Grand Slam levels really means so much to me.
