Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are the top two favourites at this year's US Open, and Tim Henman broke the matchup down.
The duo were widely considered as the players most likely to win the US Open this year. Djokovic, due to his greatness, and Alcaraz, due to his ability to produce sensational tennis when he needs it. The matchup was previewed in the Cincinnati Masters final, a brutal fight that ultimately saw Djokovic win the match and the ATP 1000 title.
It's very likely we get another one at the US Open, and if we do, it's going to be a proper delight. A high-stakes match between two great players is all you can really hope for at a Grand Slam event. Speaking in his role as a tennis analyst, Tim Henman talked about the match.
I would sign up for another Alcaraz versus Djokovic final right now, but I don’t think [it will be] a shoot-out between those two. On hard courts, there are more players who are capable of getting through to the final. The depth is far greater than it is on grass, where you can count on two hands the number of players who could win."
What Alcaraz did at Wimbledon was absolutely incredible. He beat him at his own game, but I still think Djokovic is the player to beat at the US Open. He won the first two Slams of this year and was in the final at Wimbledon. His record and experience are incredible, but it is great that we are in the early stages of a new rivalry.
Time will tell whether Djokovic does indeed get number 24, but there are plenty of those that would want to see it. Alcaraz would want a number 3 right next to his name so he'll do everything in his power to successfully defend his trophy in New York.
