Novak Djokovic continued his 2024 Geneva Open run with another solid win, and after the match, he assessed his level.
Djokovic has now played two matches at the ATP 250 tournament in Geneva, and both of them were solid wins. They're actually some of the best matches he played in recent times.
With Thursday's win, Djokovic is in the semi-final and only one match away from a final, which would be his first final in 2024. It would be pretty bizarre to see Djokovic potentially playing in his first final of the year in May, literally days away from June, but that's the type of year he had.
None of that concerns the Serbian because his goal is Roland Garros and these most recent matches certainly suggest that he is trending in the right direction.
Reporters in the Swiss city asked Djokovic what he thought of his level after these two wins, and he said he was glad that he was playing better than before.
"I played very well today in the second set. The conditions today are a little different and affect the trajectory of the ball, the speed of the point, so it forces you to change tactically. Adaptation is very important."
"It was important to stay there in the first set, he played very aggressively and it was very difficult to respond to his serve. Then, at 4-5 0-40, the match was decided. The performance in the second set was better on my part."
The Serbian nearly dropped the first set against Tallon Griekspoor, but he remained composed, and he won the match in two. His level is certainly improving, but it's not yet where it was last year.
Two more matches in Geneva and a couple more in Paris could get him there, and that's his goal.
