Novak Djokovic got to play one more match before the 2024 Australian Open, and it was a positive match against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Both players learned their draw only a few hours ago and while the Serbian is set to play a qualifier, Tsitsipas knows that he'll face a challenging first-round match, taking on Matteo Berrettini.
Ahead of the tournament, both last year's finalists got to try out the Rod Laver Arena, as they participated in one of the charity matches ahead of the 2024 Australian Open.
Previously, Alex de Minaur bested Carlos Alcaraz, and Djokovic with Tsitsipas were another two players who showed their capabilities to fans ahead of the season's first Grand Slam, which is set to start on January 14th.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion has been worried by a wrist injury in the recent days, so his match ahead of the tournament should have shown fans whether he was healthy or not.
On the other hand, Nick Kyrgios also played an exhibition match before the Australian Open last year, and then withdrew with an injury, so despite giving positive signs, these matches don't mean much.
At the charity event, called Novak and Friends, the two played only one set, since there were other activities that followed afterwards, so fans didn't get to witness the last year's champion compete in the best-of-three format.
In the match, Djokovic got an early break when he broke his opponent's serve at 3-2, and after confirming it with a hold to love, there wasn't much the Greek player could do to turn the match around.
Both then held their serves, which resulted in the Serb's win 6-3, which should be at least a little boost in his confidence ahead of the 2024 Australian Open. Both will now turn their focus to preparation for their first-round matches.
