Carlos Alcaraz was forced to withdraw from the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters after days of uncertainty regarding his injury.
The young Spaniard has never won a match in Monte Carlo, and that won't change in 2024. Some players seem to have those events where things just never go well for them, and for Alcaraz, it seems to be the first clay-court ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season.
In 2022, he lost in his first match at the tournament to Sebastian Korda, and last year, he didn't participate in the event. This year that won't change, as he was forced to withdraw once again.
It all started with a practice session that he cut short, but at the same time, there were reports that everything regarding his injury was only a precaution and that the 20-year-old would compete.
Alcaraz certainly seemed motivated, but that's not enough because he needs to be healthy, and that's not the case for the tournament running from April 7th to 14th, so he withdrew from the event.
The two-time Grand Slam champion announced his withdrawal via social media, closer explaining his decision and right-arm injury that forced him to abandon his plans in the Principality.
"I have been working in Monte Carlo and trying to recover until the last minute from an injured pronator teres in my right arm, but it was not possible and I cannot play! I was really looking forward to playing... See you next year!"
Now, Alcaraz will focus on the rest of the clay-court part of the season, as that will be really busy for him, having had a decent success last year.
First, he should compete at the Barcelona Open before moving to the Spanish capital for the Madrid Open, which is followed by the Italian Open in Rome and finally, the French Open at the Roland Garros.
