Carlos Alcaraz set to lose his world no. 1 spot

On Monday, the tennis world will witness a changing of the guard as either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Novak Djokovic will become the new world number one.

This will mark the end of Carlos Alcaraz's reign as the youngest-ever world number one in men's tennis history. Alcaraz's rise to the top of the rankings was nothing short of remarkable. After winning the 2022 US Open, he became the youngest ever world number one at just 19 years old, and held the spot for 20 weeks. However, an injury prevented him from competing in the 2023 Australian Open, giving others the opportunity to dethrone him.

Currently, Alcaraz has 6730 points, but Djokovic and Tsitsipas have the chance to surpass him. If Djokovic wins the Australian Open, he will have 7070 points, while a win for Tsitsipas will give him 6995 points. This means that regardless of the outcome of the final, Alcaraz will lose his spot as world number one.

Despite this setback, Alcaraz has a bright future ahead of him. At just 19 years old, he has already achieved what many players can only dream of and has the potential to become one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. His injury is just a minor setback and he will be back on court soon to fight for his spot back.

This gives Djokovic a great opportunity to start another string of weeks as world no. 1, as it would mark already his 374th week. On the other hand, Tsitsipas could become world no. 1 for the first time in his career, as his current career-high is no. 3 spot.
