Nick Kyrgios' absence in tennis has been felt and Boris Becker wants to see the Australian comeback with the same approach later this season.
2023 has been a tough year for Kyrgios and his injury problems began when he had to withdraw from the Australian Open in January due to a knee complaint. Since then, several setbacks have occurred to disrupt the 28-year-old's recovery, including when he injured himself further by defending his home during a recent armed robbery.
The continuous struggles of Kyrgios' injury issues will be frustrating and some fans are willing the Australian player back later in the 2023 season. One person in particular who has missed the energy and passion of Kyrgios is Becker, who explained to the Guardian why he wants the 28-year-old back on the court as soon as possible.
"On the other side, I like Nick Kyrgios and what he brings to the competition. So I want him back healthy and I want him back in with the same attitude that he had last year. Because it’s great for tennis.”
It remains to be seen when Kyrgios will step back onto the court, especially after his latest difficulty, which caused a further foot injury. Before the latest knock, Kyrgios was set to feature at the Stuttgart Open in April and he made the entry list for the event before withdrawing.
Yet, if the Australian's recovery goes well, he could potentially return for Wimbledon 2023. Kyrgios reached the final at the All England Lawn Tennis Club last season but lost to Novak Djokovic in the final.
