Prime tennis analyst Greg Rusedski considers Carlos Alcaraz the biggest favourite for the upcoming Roland Garros.
It's nothing new nor is it a shocking opinion as his co-analyst on the same network Daniela Hantuchova thinks the same. Alcaraz has been playing spectacular tennis whenever he touched the court this year having already won two big trophies on clay.
The reason why Rusedski thinks Alcaraz is the favourite besides his absurd play is just the landscape right now. Novak Djokovic is seemingly hurt and hasn't played that well regardless. Nadal has not played in months, Medvedev is not that good on clay and Zverev is miles away from his top form shown at the event last year.
Going in to this year's Roland Garros, Nadal hasn't played anything whatsoever leading up, who's always the favorite to win the title. Djokovic is hurt. This has got to be his best chance to win it because if any of those guys are healthier, any one of those three guys could win it. But right now, because of his form, he's got to be the favorite.
Alcaraz played well at Roland Garros last year when he looked like a dark horse candidate to win it but Zverev proved better. It was a match where the Spaniard couldn't break down Zverev from the baseline and the German was ready for the drop shot.
It's unlikely somebody could trouble Alcaraz that way this year because he's been so good at reading the matchups better. He even admitted recently in an interview that the main difference to last year is how he reads matches.
It's gotten to the point where even legendary players like Evert can't answer what he could possibly improve in his game. He's been called transcendent, a complete player and he'll have a chance to prove that pretty soon in Paris.
