Alcaraz & Rune To Mark Another Historic Achievement At ATP Finals

| by Sebastian Dahlman

Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune are natural record-breakers, and at the 2023 ATP Finals, they will mark yet another historic achievement.

The ATP Finals celebrate tennis, featuring the best players of the past year. Due to the nature of the event, you just won't see many young players at it because, most of the time, it features players that are at their peak, and that most of the time doesn't happen at those young ages.

This year will feature two players who are younger than 21 years old, as both Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune are among the best 8 players in the world. Both deserved to be here.

Let's start with Alcaraz. He's had an amazing year with highlights such as winning Wimbledon but also plenty of 'smaller' events like the ATP Masters 1000.

Rune on the other hand did great as well making his way to a couple of finals. Both also endured struggles which are arguably more important for growth as a player. Rune just wiggled out of his most recent slump while Alcaraz kept trying to navigate a rather injury-prone body.

Now, when it comes to the achievement, it's notable. It's the first time since 2000 that there are two players under the age of 21 playing at the event. The last time that happened was in 2000 when Lleyton Hewitt and Marat Safin did it.

Both went on to have impressive careers after that, so the writing is on the wall for these two as well. Alcaraz already won Grand Slams while Rune is certainly going to win at least one in the future.

Playing among the best will only serve both well as neither really experienced something like this before. It's the debut for both and both are ready to go. Don't miss it and stick with us for daily updates.
