Carlos Alcaraz sees some parallels between this year's Australian Open and the 2023 Wimbledon Championship, which ended with him lifting the trophy.
Wimbledon was a pretty interesting event for Alcaraz because it was a run nobody saw coming. Some people could see a minor run coming after he cruised through the Queen's Club draw, but nobody saw him going to the final in the All-England Club.
Nobody certainly saw him beating Novak Djokovic in the final, and yet it happened. This year's Australian Open run has been pretty solid so far.
He's looking really good and is improving with every match, and that gives him confidence that he can do something. He certainly sees some parallels between Wimbledon and the Australian Open because his experience at both events has been quite limited.
"Probably. Could be. Honestly, well, as you say, grass and hardcourt are totally different. Probably the process could be similar. A court that I didn't play so much here in Rod Laver, I didn't play so much as well. Probably the process could be the same or similar."
He hasn't played much on the Rod Laver Arena, much like the Centre Court of Wimbledon. There is a likelihood that he'll have to play against Djokovic there, much like he had to at Wimbledon. Whether the result ends up being the same remains to be seen, but he's hopeful.
"All I can say, yeah, is I'm feeling -- I didn't think about it, but could be the same. Every match that I'm playing, I'm feeling better and better on a court I didn't play so much, as I said. Hopefully the same as Wimbledon."
Up next is Alexander Zverev, who was a tricky matchup for him in the past. We'll see how he handles the matchup it this time around.
