The 2024 Winston-Salem Open will run from August 18th to 24th, and serve as the last tune-up for players ahead of the season's last major.
The ATP 250 tournament in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in the United States, is special in multiple ways. One of them is the fact that the tournament features a 48-player draw with 16 seeds who receive a first-round BYE.
That's a rarity on the ATP Tour and something seen only once a season in Winston-Salem. However, the enlarged draw serves its purpose, as every year, many players come to North Carolina in hopes of fine-tuning their form ahead of the US Open, and the same will be true also in 2024.
Sebastian Baez won the tournament last year, and he will return as the defending champion this year, but defending the title this year will be a difficult task for the Argentinian, who should be among the top seeds.
Jack Draper will be one of his main rivals for the title. The Brit used the tournament to fine-tune his comeback form last year, and he will make an appearance also in 2024.
Due to the tournament's position in the calendar, the list of the former champions is really diverse, as Adrian Mannarino, Ilya Ivashka, Hubert Hurkacz, Daniil Medvedev, Roberto Bautista Agut, and Pablo Carreno Busta have all won the tournament before.
To the delight of the crowd in Winston-Salem, two of the former champions will play also in 2024, as the 2022 champion Mannarino and the 2017 winner Bautista Agut are both set to make an appearance.
Apart from experienced players who have won the tournament before, there will be also plenty of youngster, looking to win their first title in the American city.
Arthur Fils will be among them, as will the likes of Luciano Darderi, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, Fabian Marozsan, and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
One of the most accomplished players that will compete in Winston-Salem will be Matteo Berrettini, who is the former World No. 6 and Wimbledon finalist.
The home crowd will also have plenty of players to cheer for, as the likes of Marcos Giron, Brandon Nakashima, and Alex Michelsen will compete at the ATP 250 tournament. The full entry list for the 2024 Winston-Salem Open can be seen below.
