The 2024 Swiss Open in Gstaad will welcome its strongest draw in years, and it's all thanks to the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
The ATP 250 event in Gstaad generally features a decent draw each year, but this year, some of the best players will be taking part, competing on the clay courts in the Swiss city from July 15th to 21st, perfecting their craft on the red dirt for the Paris Olympics, which will be played later this year.
It gives them a chance to get back into the swing of things on clay, which is why the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Matteo Berrettini have signed up for the tournament. Tsitsipas is the top seed at the event and, after a disappointing Wimbledon outing, will look to return to winning ways.
He has a first-round BYE as one of the top four seeds, but he will face a tricky challenger in the second round, either Hamad Medjedovic or Marc-Andrea Huesler. If he wins that match, he might face Dominic Thiem, who will also play at the event. He will play a qualifier in the first and possibly Fabio Fognini in the second round.
Berrettini, who is the sixth seed, will also play at the event, and he's quite familiar with it, having won his maiden trophy in Gstaad in 2018. He will begin against Pedro Cachin, and if he wins that match, he'll face either VIt Kopriva or Daniel Elahi Galan.
Some other interesting round-one matchups include Stan Wawrinka playing against Lukas Klein. Another native player, Dominic Stricker, will face Botic Van De Zandschulp.
The tournament runs alongside the Bastad Open as well as the Hamburg Open and the Newport Open. The draw for the 2024 Swiss Open in Gstaad can be seen below.
