The 2024 Bastad Open promises to be one of the most exciting editions of this ATP 250 tournament, and the draw has already been revealed.
The ATP 250 tournament in Bastad, also called the Nordea Open for sponsorship reasons, will be held from July 15th to 21st, and this year, many players will use it as a warm-up event for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Olympic Games will be played on clay at Roland Garros this year, so many more players than usual will switch back to clay right after the grass-court part of the season.
Most notably, 14-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal traveled to Sweden to play on the red dirt. He hoped also to play doubles with his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, but having to play the final at Wimbledon, the 21-year-old couldn't make it to Bastad.
Instead, Nadal teamed up with Casper Ruud in doubles, and while the doubles draw was ruthless to him, having to take on the second-seeded team in the singles competition, the 38-year-old will start against home wild card Leo Borg, who is the lowest-ranked player in the draw.
Should the Spanish legend win his first-round match, in the second round, he will play against the winner of the match between the fifth-seeded Cameron Norrie and Jozef Kovalik.
His doubles partner, and player who he beat in one Roland Garros final, Ruud, will start the tournament as the second seed, and as such, he will have a first-round BYE, starting in the second round of the tournament against the winner of the match between Federico Coria and Thiago Monteiro.
On the other side of the draw is the top-seeded Andrey Rublev, who has struggled with form in recent weeks. However, the Russian is determined to do well on clay, and even though he's one of the players who will play on the red dirt in Bastad, he won't compete at the Olympics.
Like Ruud, he will have a first-round BYE, and in the second round of the ATP 250 tournament, the Russian will play against either Thiago Agustin Tirante or one of the qualifiers. The full draw for the 2024 Bastad Open can be seen below.
