The ATP Finals is one of the most important tournaments on the tennis calendar, and the prize money and points distribution for this year's event has been revealed.
Running from November 10th to 17th in Turin, the 2024 ATP Finals will see the eight best players during the year competing against each other. Sam Smith won the first iteration of the tournament in 1970.
Novak Djokovic, who has lost his dominance according to Rennae Stubbs, is the most successful player in the event's history with seven titles. This includes winning last year's final against home favorite Jannik Sinner.
Since then, Sinner has beaten Djokovic in their last four matches. The most recent was this week at the Six Kings Slam, where the world No. 1 overcame a physically struggling Djokovic in three sets.
Roger Federer is the second most successful player at the ATP Finals, with six titles, the last of which was in 2011. He reached three more finals and several semifinals after that, meaning the Swiss legend may regret not adding to his tally.
The ATP Finals is also notable for being one of the few significant tournaments that Rafael Nadal did not win during his illustrious career. His level in indoor hardcourt events was not as high as Djokovic's or Federer's.
Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev were the first three players who qualified for the 2024 edition of the ATP Finals. Medvedev and Taylor Fritz also look very likely to book their places in Turin.
The other spots remain up for grabs. Whichever players qualify for the year-end tournament will compete for a substantial amount of ranking points and prize money.
If the 2024 ATP Finals champion goes undefeated during the tournament, an incredible $4,881,100 and 1,500 ranking points will be awarded. That would require three round-robin triumphs and then wins in the semifinal and final.
Just winning the final, regardless of whether the player went undefeated before that, will see that player collect $2,237,200 and 500 ranking points for their impressive achievement.
The two players who triumph in the semifinals will also receive a seven-figure sum of $1,123,400 and 400 ranking points. Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev were the losing semifinalists in 2023.
Each victory during the round-robin stage will also be very lucrative for the eight players. $396,500 and 200 ranking points will be awarded for each victory achieved before the semifinals and final.
Unlike many other tournaments, players will also earn a healthy amount just for competing at the 2024 ATP Finals. A $331,000 participation fee is guaranteed for every man who plays all three round-robin matches, even if they lose them all.
Each year, alternates are on standby if a player cannot play for any reason. The players fulfilling that role will get $155,000.
The ATP Finals is always one of the most exciting tournaments of the season, and this year's edition of the year-end event is unlikely to be any different.
