Before the first Grand Slam of the season starts in Melbourne, players will compete at an ATP 250 event in Auckland.
The 2023 ASB Classic in Auckland will be attended by some of the biggest names on the ATP Tour. World no. 3 Casper Ruud leads the entry list of the event that is set to run from January 9 - 15. The tournament should have also been attended by Holger Rune, who had a heated exchange with the Norwegian at this year's Roland Garros, but according to Ruud's words, there's no more heat right now. However, thee young Dane withdrew from the event to prepare for the first major of the season.
The ASB Classic in Auckland has been won by Ugo Humbert, Tennys Sandgren, Roberto Bautista Agut and Jack Sock in the past. None of these players will compete in 2023 but at least one former champion will be in New Zealand as John Isner should be one of the seeded players.
Cameron Norrie, Diego Schwartzman, Francisco Cerundolo, Alexander Bublik and Sebastian Baez should all compete in Auckland too. Likes of Adrian Mannarino, Jenson Brooksby and David Goffin will also want to start the season with good result ahead of the first major.
