2022 Roland Garros ATP Entry List - Nadal, Djokovic, Medvedev, Zverev & more

| by Erik Virostko

The 2022 Roland Garros is right behind the corner, and the entry list for the second Grand Slam of the season, which will be played from May 22nd until June 5th, is already known.

Players don't usually skip Grand Slam tournaments, as they are the only four tournaments of the season in which 128 players enter the main draw and get the biggest cut from the prize money.

Also, they are the only tournaments where the champion wins 2000 points, and so there's always a huge fight for glory. And that will be no different at the 2022 Roland Garros, as the entry list is full of star names.

After Rafael Nadal won the tournament in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, Novak Djokovic became the champion in 2021 and will defend his title this year. However, it won't be easy for the Serbian, as the 13-time Roland Garros champion Nadal will try to add his 14th title in Paris and 22nd Grand Slam title overall.

However, the 2022 Roland Garros won't be all about Nadal and Djokovic. Unfortunately, Roger Federer, another member of the Big Three, won't take part, as the Swiss player has played this tournament only twice in the last six years.

However, many young guns will attempt to win their first Grand Slam title at the 2022 Roland Garros. Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Carlos Alcaraz have all won already an ATP Masters 1000 tournament but are yet to lift a Grand Slam trophy.

However, in the last 18 seasons, the Big Three have dominated Grand Slam tournaments. However, their winning streak of 14 Grand Slams in a row was broken at the 2020 US Open by Dominic Thiem, and Daniil Medvedev lifted the trophy at the 2021 US Open as well.

Historically, the last Grand Slam of the season was most likely to see a surprising winner as in the last 19 seasons, members of Big Three triumphed in the Flushing Meadows only 12 times.

On the other hand, at the Roland Garros, they lifted the last 16 out of the last 17 trophies, with the only surprise coming from Stan Wawrinka in 2015. But time went by, and the Big Three got older, and the next generation can't wait to lift their maiden trophy.

That's why the possible challengers for the title don't include only Zverev, Tsitsipas, and Alcaraz. Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, and Jannik Sinner are all also very strong on clay and will try to go as far as possible in the French capital.

Diego Schwartzman, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and Matteo Berrettini all played in the quarterfinals of this clay-court Grand Slam last year, and they will need a strong result this year to defend their points.
