Tennis legend Roger Federer sent a heartwarming social media message to Coco Gauff after achieving the biggest title of her career at the US Open.
Roger Federer has taken a backseat from the limelight following his retirement from the sport back in 2022, but his heartfelt message to Gauff showed he still keeps in touch with the sport from a distance, and continues to watch how the top of the game is evolving from season to season.
There were a lot of notable celebrities, including former US president Barack Obama, that sent their admiration and congratulations after Gauff's win. But Federer was one of the more recent to do so, sharing a throwback photo of the two of them together when her career was in its infancy, while posting a message alongside it.
Federer acknowledged all the dedication, passion and hard work that he has seen from the youngster. The photo in question seems to be from Indian Wells back in 2015, when Gauff would have been just 11 years of age at the time.
"Inspirational win Coco Gauff. Been watching your and following you for years. It’s great to see so much hard work and passion being rewarded. You shine brighter than ever."
Although Federer's message of congratulations may seem out of the ordinary and quite peculiar, both Gauff and Federer share the same agent in Tony Godsick. Gauff has worked alongside Godsick for all of the past six years, so he has been front and centre to the progress she has made to get to this point in her young career so far.
It remains to be seen how far Gauff's talents will take her and just how many Grand Slam titles she can rack up in the coming years. But she remains a very popular character throughout both tours, and Federer is just one of many people who is very happy to see her fulfil all of her potential with the US Open triumph on Saturday.
