Sinner Admits He 'Lived Whole Trip In Australia With Calmness'

Jannik Sinner had a tremendous time in Australia, and part of it was because he was very calm while he was there.

Sinner will always remember the 2024 Australian summer because it was then that he won his maiden Grand Slam trophy. He will not easily forget that, but it was also a fabulous mental display.

The Italian never looked shaken during that time, and even the final of the Australian Open didn't really shake him too much. He was down 0-2 to Daniil Medvedev but remained calm and ultimately won in three sets. That calmness was hugely impressive because he didn't always have it.

It's also something he mentioned during a recent interview with Vogue Magazine, where he talked about how calm he was during his whole stay in Australia, even in the match against Novak Djokovic.

"I lived this whole trip in Australia with a lot of calmness. It’s a different match (the semi-final against Djokovic) than most of the matches. Because you play against one who never lost a semi-final there."

"You’re playing against one who won 24 Grand Slams. So in your mind, you have to do the right thing. Tactically, you have to be perfect. Mentally also, because he’s never going to drop down. I was just trying to play point after point with the right mentality. That’s the only thing I can control."

That match was a brutal display from Sinner, who easily outplayed the best player in the world in four sets. Even when Djokovic won the third set, Sinner remained completely calm and finished off the match like a veteran.

It was impressive to see because he's a young player, and despite his experience on the ATP Tour in general, he couldn't really prepare for those moments, and seeing him handle it so confidently was just amazing.
