Wozniacki To Face Bouchard In Exhibition Match At Dallas Open

Caroline Wozniacki and Eugenie Bouchard are slated to officially face each other on the opening weekend to kick off the Dallas Open, an ATP-only event.

For the second year in a row, two WTA players will herald the start of Tour-level tennis in Dallas, Texas. Last year, Madison Keys and Sloane Stephens were brought in as replacements for Venus Williams and Danielle Collins and played an exhibition match dubbed the Women's Tennis Classic.

The tournament organizers have already planned next year's edition by inviting former WTA No. 1 Wozniacki, who is set to resume her comeback from retirement in January, and 2014 Wimbledon finalist Bouchard to entertain a vibrant American crowd.

Bouchard's long-term future as a tennis pro remains in doubt, having committed to play pickleball in 2024 and even announcing her first official tournament playing the paddle sport.

As most of her peers on the tennis circuit pack their bags for the long trip to Australia, Bouchard hasn't qualified for the 2024 Australian Open and will not be making the journey Down Under, barring an improbable wild card entry.

Wozniacki, meanwhile, shocked tennis fans when she announced her imminent return to tennis in June, three and half years since her official retirement.

The 33-year-old turned heads with her dazzling run at the US Open, where she made the second week and lost to eventual champion Coco Gauff in the fourth round.

Although she only played three tournaments before shutting down her season, she will resume her second coming in January. The Danish veteran will play the ASB Classic in Auckland and the 2024 Australian Open, having been granted a wild card.

Main draw action at the 2024 Dallas Open is set to commence on February 5 with a 28-player singles draw. Last year, Yibing Wu made history when he became China's first ATP titlist.
