'Without Them, I Wouldn't Be Here': Andreescu Pays Tribue To Serena Williams & Billie Jean King

| by Zachary Wimer

Bianca Andreescu paid tribute to Billie Jean King and Serena Williams, two tennis players who inspired her to pick up a racquet.

Andreescu had the crowning moment of her career against Serena Williams. She beat her in the US Open final, denying her the elusive 24th Grand Slam trophy, one that the legendary American had been chasing for a big part of her tennis career.

It was the best moment of the Canadian's career because it was her maiden Grand Slam trophy, which is a huge achievement for any tennis player. Many assumed that the talented Canadian would win more trophies after that, but it never quite worked out that way.

Injuries are mostly to blame, but she also made some mental health breaks as she struggled to find her best tennis again. Through that process, Andreescu became way more mindful and grateful for the whole experience, which made her a great advocate for many things.

She proved it once more recently by paying tribute to Billie Jean King and Serena Williams on February 7th, which is National Girls and Women in Sports Day. She made a social media post on Instagram, showing her appreciation for the two legends.

"Happy National Girls and Women in Sports Day. I'm so grateful for the girls and women in sports who have helped shape my career, like Billie Jean King and Serena Williams. Without them, I would not be here today."

The 23-year-old also mentioned growing talents like Eileen Gu and Coco Gauff, some of the young women in sports breaking records. It was a very nice gesture from Andreescu, who admittedly does have a lot of time on her hands. Hopefully, she'll be back on the tennis courts soon.

"And for the next generation of amazing women in sports who are raising the bar like Eileen Gu and Coco Gauff, it is so amazing to see."
