WATCH: Serena Williams Shares Intensive Pregnancy Workout

| by Nurein Ahmed

Former WTA number one Serena Williams may have evolved away from tennis but is still keeping her fierce fitness routine in check while pregnant.

Serena broke the news of her second pregnancy at the Met Gala in May in a red-carpet interview. She is expected to welcome her second child in the coming months and is taking her health seriously, not just in her dietary intake, but also in keeping herself fit and sticking to a pregnancy workout routine.

The legendary American retired from the sport following last summer's US Open. Although she despised using the word retirement officially, Williams used the Vogue platform last August to detail her upcoming ventures, saying she was evolving away from tennis.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion has teased fans of a potential comeback since, but with burgeoning off-court interests and the continued life as a parent, it is highly unlikely we'll see Williams pick up the wand again. Nonetheless, Williams has been extremely active on social media detailing her pregnancy workout.

"Hey everyone and welcome to my pregnancy workout. I wanted to show you how I am staying fit while being pregnant at the same time."

Serena talks of her pregnancy workout

"Very difficult thing to do but I learned that when you are pregnant you burn so many calories as much as a triathlon athlete. So I am trying to take advantage of that and continue to burn those calories."

Serena, however, placed a disclaimer in the description box of the video, saying that the exercises performed may not be suitable for all pregnant women, and emphasized the need to seek further consultation with a doctor or healthcare provider before attempting any of the exercises.

The sneak peek of the workout first appeared on her Instagram account, where over 70,000 people have since liked the post. And Serena has uploaded the full video on her YouTube channel, which she launched at the end of April. Serena documents behind the scenes look into her personal life, with the channel amassing close to 20,000 subscribers.
