Although not how she had hoped, Naomi Osaka reached the second round of the 2022 Japan Open in Tokyo.
Since the four-time Grand Slam champion has a large following at home, Daria Saville's reaction to learning who her opponent was at the draw ceremony was quite amusing. Her match with Naomi Osaka, though, wasn't as funny because the Australian was forced to leave the court after just nine minutes of play.
After one of the rallies, Saville fell to the ground and screamed in pain as she held her knee and Osaka quickly rushed to help her opponent. After the match, she also addressed her some nice words in a video message, that stated:
"Hi Daria, it's Naomi. I just wanted to wish you the best. I hope you're doing better. I just want to let you know you're one of the funniest people on the Tour and I still remember all the nice things that you said to me at the French [Open] this year. I want you to know that I'm wishing you the best. I hope that it's not a major injury at all and you'll bounce back, because that's what you're good at," Naomi Osaka said.
