Coco Gauff showed her religiousness immediately after the 2023 US Open triumph when she prayed next to her bench.
Gauff puts a lot of emphasis on her faith and never fails to recognize her privileged situation, which she's very thankful for. The American found herself feeling the moment after her US Open win over Aryna Sabalenka, taking a moment to pray before the ceremony.
Just like in Cincinnati, Gauff mentioned her faith during the trophy ceremony, explaining how the previous disappointments made this moment far sweeter for her. She worked for this moment for years, so it was obvious that it meant a great to her.
Oh my goodness. It means so much to me. I feel like I’m in shock. That French Open loss was a heartbreak. I realized God puts you through trials. This makes this moment even sweeter than I could imagine. I don’t pray for results. I just ask that I get the strength to give it my all. Whatever happens happens. I’m so blessed in this life.
There was a lot of emotion involved in the whole final. Her family was there, and both of her parents were very nervous during the match. Who could blame them when she looked on the ropes early in the match?
Her father being nervous is something she joked about during the ceremony as well as earlier in the event during a press conference. She, too, was moved to tears during the ceremony but still took a moment to thank upstairs for the outcome of the match.
Check out the video of Gauff silencing the noise and getting on her knees as the stage was being prepared. Truly a humble player and one who will certainly have more success in the future. If she keeps up this work ethic and humble nature, then it's a given.
