Venus Williams Forced To Withdraw From Atlanta Open Sunday Showdown

| by Zachary Wimer

Venus Williams was supposed to return to tennis at the 2024 Atlanta Open as part of the Sunday Showdown, but she won't be playing at the event due to another injury setback.

Williams has been away from tennis for a while. Her last competitive match was at the Miami Open, where she played and lost against Diana Shanider. The American has since been working hard to get back into shape so that she can play tennis, and it was supposed to happen at the ATP tournament in Atlanta soon.

She agreed to an exhibition match against Sloane Stephens back in May, which was to take place during the Atlanta Open. Unfortunately, fans won't get to see that match because Williams experienced an injury setback, which will prevent her from playing in the Sunday Showdown.

It was supposed to take place on July 21st, but the Sunday Showdown will still go on with a replacement for the legendary American, as Sloane Stephens will take on Taylor Townsend. The event posted an update by Williams, who regretfully explained why she couldn't play.
