Swiatek Tops Prize Money Earnings In 2022 Ahead Of Nadal, Alcaraz, Djokovic

| by Jordan Reynolds

Iga Swiatek is No. 1 on the list for prize money earned in 2022, with four ATP players in the Top five.

It is very rare for a WTA player to finish a year at No. 1 on the prize money list. Although there is equal prize money at the four Grand Slams, WTA tournaments throughout the rest of the year offer less prize money than ATP events.

That is why a woman has not ended a season at No. 1 on the list since 2003. Kim Clijsters finished ahead of Roger Federer by around $500,000 during that year, an achievement that deserves immense respect.

Despite how much more challenging it is for female players to be No. 1, Swiatek could become the first WTA star in 19 years to top the prize money list. She is currently at the top of the list with $6.64 million.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed an incredible season. Between February and the third round of Wimbledon in July, she won 37 consecutive matches, securing the Qatar Open, Indian Wells Open, Miami Open, Stuttgart Open, Italian Open, and French Open titles during that run.

Rafael Nadal is No. 2 on the list, narrowly trailing Swiatek with $6.42 million. The Spaniard won this year's Australian Open and French Open, a remarkable recovery after being out for months with an injury in 2021.

Young star Carlos Alcaraz's $4.76 million puts him at No. 3. The 19-year-old has secured four titles so far in 2022: the Rio Open, Miami Open, Barcelona Open, and the Miami Open.

This year's Wimbledon champion, Novak Djokovic, is No. 4 with $4.23 million. Stefanos Tsitsipas completes the Top 5 with $4.16 million.
