Iga Swiatek has won her ninth consecutive Grand Slam match after defeating Maria Camila Osorio in the first round in Melbourne.
The 21-year-old can win two consecutive Grand Slam titles for the first time in her career. In 2022, she won Roland Garros and US Open, and this year, Swiatek is on her best way to start with a victory also at the Australian Open.
Swiatek started her second-round match with two breaks and she was soon up 4-0 against Osorio. But the Colombian player also got two breaks, but since the Pole added two more, she won the first set 6-2 in just 38 minutes.
In the second set, the world no. 1 got two quick breaks again. This time, she did so in a string of 11 consecutive points won, to increase her lead to 5-1 in the second set. She was then broken once, but ultimately won the match in an hour and 25 minutes, 6-2, 6-3.
In the third round, Swiatek will await winner of the match between Cristina Busca and 2019 US Open champion, Bianca Andreescu.
