Naomi Osaka, Serena Williams and Emma Raducanu were all ranked very high on the list of the most marketable athletes in 2022 and so there is no surprises it converted also to being the highest-paid.
It seems that WTA Tour is one of the most favourable places for female athletes. Tennis players seem to be able to earn really well not just from prize money but also endorsements. Stats prove that as seven out of ten highest-paid female athletes in 2022 are tennis players. The other three are Eileen Gu, Simone Biles and Jin Young Ko.
Naomi Osaka tops the list with more than $52 million earned. The 23-time Grand Slam champion is second with $35 million, while the British teenager placed third with $23 million.
Other notable tennis players in Top 10 of the list are Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Asheligh Barty, who already retired from professional tennis and also Leylah Fernandez, who played US Open final last year.
Conversely, tennis players depend on endorsements more than any other athletes. The exact earnings of the top 15 tennis players for 2022 was $355 million, of which $298 million came from endorsements and only $57 million from winnings.
Baseball players, on the other hand, earn $509 million in pay and just $32 million in sponsorships. Ice hockey players made $151 million in wages, but only $18 million in endorsements.
Unsurprisingly, the highest-paid tennis player was now-retired Swiss icon Roger Federer, who earned $85.7M overall and an astounding $85M from endorsements.
