Mirra Andreeva vs Diane Parry: 2024 Australian Open - Preview & Prediction

| by Zachary Wimer

Mirra Andreeva crushed Ons Jabeur in the second round of the 2024 Australian Open, so what does that mean for Diane Parry in the 3rd round?

If you didn't think Mirra Andreeva was special after last year, then some of the performances this year should certainly make it more clear. One of those came against Jabeur, who was dispatched from the court in a stunning fashion.

The Tunisian was all over the place, committing 24 unforced errors in basically 14 games of play. She had no idea what to do against Andreeva, who won 6-0, 6-2. That was a combination of good play from the Russian, now up to five wins this year already.

Parry did well to make it to the third round, but this one is going to be tough for the French player who already played against Andreeva.

Head-to-head:

That match happened at last year's French Open on a surface that suited both players but was generally considered the best for the French player. She had no chance as she lost 1-6 2-6, and something similar may happen here again.

The French player just doesn't seem to have the weapons to really defeat Andreeva, who is exceptional at just finding holes in the opponent's game and exploiting them.

Mirra Andreeva Diane Parry

16 Age 21
5-1 2024 W/L 4-1
78-19 Career W/L 172-134

Prediction:

The level of tennis she has been playing recently has been really good, with multiple big names struggling to do anything. She bested Liudmila Samsonova in Brisbane, defeated Danielle Collins at the Kooyong Classic, and overpowered Jabeur in 56 minutes in Melbourne.

The only kind of lackluster match she played was against Linda Noskova in Brisbane, so she can be beaten, but you need a bad match from her and just a strong performance from the baseline. I don't see Parry doing that.

Prediction: Mirra Andreeva to win in two sets.
