Jessica Pegula found herself in disbelief after seeing that she was the winningest player in WTA 1000 events in the last two years.
Pegula is one of those players who didn’t have a meteoric rise to start her career. The American is somewhat of a Stan Wawrinka on the WTA Tour, only becoming a really great tennis player in the latter stages of her career.
She’s been going strong for a while now, and one of the hallmarks of that is her consistency. She’s not one to flash and win a Grand Slam out of nowhere, but she consistently performs well and wins a couple of matches weekly.
A stat that backs that up clearly is her record at the WTA 1000 events, where she has been performing really well recently. The American secured another win on the WTA 1000 level by beating Sloane Stephens at the Guadalajara Open to secure the semi-final of that event.
That brought her tally of wins on the 1000 level to 37 in the past two years, which is the best mark of all players. It’s not Iga Swiatek or Coco Gauff or some other tennis players. It’s Jessica Pegula.
She is the player with the most wins on the WTA 1000 level in the past two years, which is an amazing stat that shows how consistent she’s been at winning matches at some of the biggest events on the calendar.
The stat was posted by OptaAce, a tennis stat tracking website, on social media, and Pegula responded to it. She shared a powerful message of self-belief and working hard, admitting that five years ago, this seemed impossible.
"If you told me five years ago when I couldn’t string two matches together that I would have this stat… you can always improve, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise."
