"It's more of me just standing up for other athletes, not just for myself" - Andreescu on accusations of faking injuries in tennis

Bianca Andreescu was accused of fabricating physical issues during her match against Kasatkina to break up the rhythm of the Russian and she did not appreciate it.

Andreescu took a MTO against Kasatkina after feeling dizzy and unwell but continued the match. She would win it and move on with some suggesting she faked the symptoms she was feeling to get a MTO in there. It's not unheard of in tennis however Andreescu took to social media to quickly shut those down. She was asked the following day at a press conference about it:

"It's more of me just standing up for other athletes as well, not just for myself. But it's just so sad to see comments like that. They don't necessarily go to my head. And I never really speak out about it. But when I do I really hope that I can make a stand in some way and maybe shut them up."

If you wonder what Andreescu had to say to the critics, read it below:

"Thanks you to everyone who came out to support tonight," Andreescu wrote in her Instagram story. "It was electric!! I’ve been seeing some comments/ messages about what happened during my match and wanted to address it."

"I genuinely did not feel good. Dizzy and nauseous. Nothing to do with my back, thankfully but I definitely did not mean to cause any harm/distraction or whatever ppl (people) have been calling it to my opponent or anyone in that matter," Andreescu added.

"Try being in our position and see how y’all do. Anyways I’m happy to see another day here in Toronto and I’m feeling much better. See you all tmrw(tomorrow)."

"I really wanted to push through, this is the court I grew up on and no was not an option for me tonight," Andreescu wrote. "It just makes me sad to see that ppl (people) really believe that. Us athletes go through injuries, sickness etc, the last thing I want to do is put more of that energy in the air especially if it’s fake?!?!"
