Iga Swiatek wins 30th match in a row against Riske at Roland Garros

Iga Swiatek extended her winning streak already to 30 matches by beating Alison Riske at the 2022 Roland Garros.

As the Polish player kept winning matches, her winning streak became larger and larger and it’s now at 30 matches in a row. When a winning streak starts, there are always two questions: How far will it go? When will it stop?

When it comes to Swiatek, both are still in play. She hit five wins rather easily. Winning 10 in a row wasn’t a huge problem either. Then she made it to 15 wins in a row and then to 20. Fans wondered if she could make it to 25, and she did, and then there were 30, and she did that just recently at the French Open.

Her opponent was Alison Riske and it wasn’t much of a problem for Swiatek. The American, while a capable player, isn’t very good on clay and never has been good on clay.

It’s a curse she shares with many of her fellow Americans, and Swiatek took full advantage of that. She served yet another bagel in the opening set, which lasted only 21 minutes, winning it 6-0, with Swiatek blasting 11 winners compared to only four errors.

The level of dominance from Swiatek is becoming absurd because she has been thrashing really solid players. She is not playing ITF-level players but professional players, and it still wins by a difference of a few levels.

Riske avoided a second-set bagel by saving a couple of break points at 0-3 to make it 1-3. Swiatek continued to apply the pressure, and she was able to win the second set 6-2. It was another easy win for the Polish player, who has now won 30 matches in a row.

It’s an impressive achievement and the most impressive winning streak in recent memory. The questions above still stand. How far will it go remains to be seen, but the next milestone is 35, and it looks like she will probably hit that. When will it stop?

That’s an even better question, and judging by how she’s played recently, it’s not likely going to stop anytime soon. Maybe during the grass season, as that surface is by far her weakest one.
