Iga Swiatek finally debuted her custom tennis shoes made by On after wearing her former ones as these ones were being made.
On is becoming a really solid brand in sports thanks to the endorsement of Roger Federer, who invested in the company and created a signature shoe for them. Federer's endorsement got a few players to try out their shoes as the company signed their first tennis players: Ben Shelton and Iga Swiatek.
Those were some pretty big names for the company, and both Shelton and Swiatek were quite happy with the deal. Shelton spoke about it a few times, as did Swiatek, but the latter didn't wear their tennis shoes until recently.
Some things needed to be redone to fit the preference of the Polish player, and despite being in full On wear, the shoes were her old ones. Well, they're here; she played her first match in her custom shoes at the Japan Open recently.
She took on native player Mai Hontama and had some issues early against the Japanese player, who brought quite a bit of shot-making early. Eventually, the match shifted in Swiatek's favour, and she won in two sets, which was a good start for both her and the brand.
On will be glad that her first match in full On gear went well because losing would have been quite unfortunate. She looked comfortable running around in them, so that's a good thing. If she wasn't confident, she likely wouldn't have even worn them in the first place, so overall, it was a good thing.
It wouldn't be bad for the Polish player to put together a really strong run because she needs a good result after some recent disappointments. This was a good start and if you're wondering how the outfit looks check it out below.
