WATCH: "Glad it's not in cash" - Swiatek after receiving US Open cheque

Iga Swiatek defeated Ons Jabeur to win the 2022 US Open trophy, and she was upbeat following the victory.

The young Pole proved to be better than everyone else at the 2022 US Open, winning her first hard-court major and her third Grand Slam title overall by simply outplaying all of her competition, as she did throughout the 2022 WTA season.

After making it to the final while dropping only two sets along the way, Swiatek defeated Tunisia's Ons Jabuer in two sets, 6-2, 7-6(5) to lift the title, but also, collect the prize money for the tournament victory.

Because the win comes with numerous advantages in addition to the trophy and many points, her good mood was to be expected. The check is for $2.6 million, which is a sizable sum of money for the Polish number one.

While receiving the cheque, Swiatek was really in a good mood, as she has joked that she's really happy that she doesn't have to carry her prize in cash.

"I'm really glad that it's not in cash."

Although she did not say it in the microphone, it was picked up by the microphones present, and the joke was funny and was well received by those who heard it.

With the 2022 US Open title now in her collection, and millions in prize money earned, the Polish player will soon turn her focus to the 2023 season, as there are no more Grand Slam tournaments left in 2022, even though she will still want to win some trophies this year.

In 2023, Swiatek will have to defend two major titles, as she will be the defending champion at the Roland Garros, which she has won already twice in her career, as well as the US Open, which will be her first-ever hard-court title defence.
