Coco Gauff is one of the best tennis players on the WTA Tour, and with the 2024 season ahead, Rick Macci talked exclusively to Tennis Infinity about the teenager's potential.
While the youngster proved her potential multiple times during her young career, she certainly proved it on the biggest stage in 2023, when she won the US Open at Flushing Meadows.
Now, it's all about repeating that success and proving that she's got what it takes to win more majors in her career. Many expect her to get it done already in 2024, but that may not be a reality.
Gauff has always been one of the players that developed gradually, and certain elements of her game pushed her forward. Renowned tennis coach, Rick Macci, who spoke to us ahead of the 2024 season, praised her speed on the court, and confidently said that Gauff will win another Grand Slam in her career.
"She's quicker than quick, faster than fast, one of the best competitors, in my opinion, the best athlete, out there on the women's tour. Will she win more Grand Slams? Absolutely."
With the women's Tour being so strong at the moment, the American needs a lot of patience, something she proved during that 2023 US Open final against Aryna Sabalenka.
According to Macci, all three other players, who are currently contesting for titles on the WTA Tour - Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Elena Rybkaina, can get prone to committing too many mistakes, and that's something that Gauff can profit from.
"Especially if you see Iga kind of get upset or any type of injuries. I think the women's game is so fluid. Because Sabalenka has the firepower, but she can also check out and not really kind of be there. Rybakina has the serve, but she can spray it around a little bit."
On top of that, the 68-year-old expects the likes of Naomi Osaka and Sofia Kenin to return to their best and challenge the currently best players.
Yet, Macci reiterates that Gauff has ability to lift multiple Grand Slam titles, despite Swiatek currently being the only player that has really proved her qualities multiple times on different surfaces.
"I think it's wide open. I think Osaka is going to come back and do damage. I think Kenin will be back in there. I just think this is so fluid, except for Iga because she's proven herself, but Coco has the ability to win many slams."
