Fernandez Details How She Deals With Social Media Hate

Like countless before her, Leylah Fernandez too deals with a lot of hate on social media and she opened up about it.

The Canadian became a tennis darling with her incredible US Open run a few years ago but since then she couldn't find the same form again. It comes as she deals with troubles regarding her form and injuries which have prevented her from attaining that.

It's been a tough time for her overall and she opened up about those troubles in a Q and A session on social media admitting to a lot of social media hate and how she deals with it. It's mostly an effort to try and ignore them as best as possible.

I try to ignore them. The people who send those messages don’t know how hard I work. And I don’t really care. I know I have people around me who care and love me, that’s the most important.

Part of those struggles are also early exits from events as she fails to win matches that generally people expect her to win. It's a tricky thing to overcome but Fernandez mostly resorts to trusting the process and herself and simply working harder. Hard work is at the basis of everything she does.

I trust in myself and on my team. I get back to practice and train harder.

She also revealed some other things about herself like studying. She is interested in business and is taking business classes. She also confirmed that she is indeed in a relationship and it's with the sport of tennis - her one true love.

The next event for her is the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers as Team Canada will take on Belgium on April 14th and 15th in Vancouver. That comes after a loss in Charleston this past week.
