'Everything Went Extremely Well': Brady Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery

Former Australian Open finalist Jennifer Brady shared a fresh update on her injury status, confirming that she had undergone successful surgery to address a longstanding knee injury.

The 28-year-old returned to the tour in the middle of last season after a two-year hiatus due to multiple injuries. She had played her last match before her comeback in 2021 at the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, where she succumbed to a foot injury.

The American ended up picking a second injury just a few days later while practicing in the buildup to the 2021 US Open - a stress fracture on her knee. Brady spent the entire 2022 season seeking medical intervention to treat those two injuries.

She delayed her return in 2023 because of niggling injuries post-recovery. Eventually, she rejoined her peers, playing her first match in mid-July at the W100 ITF tournament in Granby, Canada.

Brady made her official WTA return at the Citi Open in Washington last August, where she defeated Anhelina Kalinina in the first round for her maiden comeback victory. She played in Montreal and Cincinnati in the lead-up to the 2023 US Open.

Against all the odds, she would reach the third round in New York, losing to Caroline Wozniacki in three sets. It was the best result of her comeback because Brady would play her last tournament in 2023 at the China Open and retired in the second round stage.

"Everything went extremely well today in surgery. A massive thanks to @brianjcolemd and his entire team during this entire process. Wish I could look as cute as @ajlatom (Tomljanovic) post-op."

Once ranked as high as World No. 13, Brady had steered her ranking into the Top 300 after being unranked. But she suffered a fresh setback when she announced her withdrawal from the 2024 Australian Open and only recently shared an update on her chronic knee injury.

The one-time WTA titlist confirmed that the recovery process would be quite extensive after undergoing surgery on Wednesday and posted on her Instagram account a photo of herself post-surgery.

As Brady begins rehab, she announced in mid-January that she would take up a role as a Graduate Assistant coach at the University of California, Los Angeles, to help the women's tennis team.
