Amanda Anisimova reveals she played with a broken toe following US Open exit

Amanda Anisimova lost in the first round of the 2022 US Open, revealing after the match that she was dealing with a physical problem during the match.

Anisimova was one of the players expected to do really well at the US Open. She’s a native player and generally enjoys playing on a court like the one at the US Open which is generally more on the faster side.

Having looked fairly solid at times this year only made it more likely, but things didn’t go that way for her in New York. She faced Yulia Putintseva in the opening round and lost the match in two sets, 3-6, 3-6, without giving her opponent any kind of problems.

The Kazakhstani player is a tricky opponent and tough to beat; however, it was still expected that Anisimova would put up a better fight than she did.

Something went wrong, and after the match, the American explained what went wrong. She explained it in a social media post, revealing her problem as a broken toe.

"Damn the last couple of weeks have been tough. I broke my toe in Cincinnati last week, and I’ve done everything I could to get ready for the Open."

"I’m proud of myself for giving myself a chance and playing the whole match. Even with getting injections in my foot that hurt more than the actual injury that I’m still recovering from lol."

Anisimova’s career has gone up and down in recent years, even though her talent never really left. She’s played very well at times but hasn’t managed to achieve a proper breakout.

She has all the ingredients, but somehow, something always comes up similar to how this injury came up. This year’s US Open was a chance for her to possibly put together a great run, but unfortunately, this situation impacted the way she was able to play, and she wasn’t able to overcome that.

"I hope I’ll be back stronger next year, and thank you to the crowd that is always the best here in New York. I love playing here."
