Collins Continues Winning Streak With Thrashing Win Over Badosa In Charleston

| by Zachary Wimer

Danielle Collins can't stop winning and won't stop winning after adding another impressive win to her resume at the 2024 Charleston Open.

The American might be retiring at the end of the year, and that's a real shame because she's been playing some amazing tennis lately. Everything came together nicely for her at the Miami Open, where she went all the way, beating Elena Rybakina in the final.

It was a superb run that ended with her winning the biggest trophy of her career—quite an unthinkable one because she couldn't walk leading up to the event. That's how tricky her health situation is and part of why she's ultimately going to leave the sport later this year.

The short turnaround didn't bother her one bit because she was able to produce another sensational performance against Paula Badosa at the WTA 500 event in Charleston.

The Spaniard loves to play in Charleston and has played a couple of times, but she was no match in this match. A very confident Collins used the quicker conditions to her advantage, overwhelming Badosa from the baseline.

The opening set lasted only 29 minutes, as Collins smashed Badosa 6-1. It was a dominant performance, especially on Badosa's serve, which was dominated by Collins's superb return.

That's how she also won the Miami Open, giving Rybakina many problems in the final thanks to her return. On her own serve, Collins could largely overcome her minor issues and cruised comfortably.

The second set didn't offer anything different for Badosa, who still had the same issues she had in the opening set. She played a little bit better, especially on return which allowed her to break but still ran into massive problems on her own serve.

Ultimately, Collins finished off the match, winning 6-1, 6-4 to keep her winning streak going, while Badosa will take this match and use it to start building on it.
