Coco Gauff Signs Up To Defend Her Auckland Title In 2024

| by Sebastian Dahlman

Coco Gauff opened this year with a strong showing at the ASB Classic, also called the Auckland Open, winning a trophy, and she'll defend that trophy next year.

Despite being on the WTA Tour for a few years, Gauff doesn't have many trophies. She won her biggest one at the Citi Open recently, but it wasn't her first one this year. She won her first one at her first event this year in Auckland.

It was a pretty great week for the American who navigated a very rainy week in Auckland well to lift the trophy. Due to her positive experience, Gauff opted to return there next year in order to try and defend her trophy.

The event is a very popular one that generally has pretty strong entry lists and it's the perfect way to get your Australian Open preparation underway. Another contributing factor to her decision to sign up for the event was the stay she had earlier this year. She and her family loved it and can't wait to return.

Auckland was one of the first tournaments that we pencilled in. That is not just because it is important to defend the title that I was honoured to win last year, but it is a great way to start my year as the lead-in to the Australian Open.

My family all came with me and we love New Zealand and Auckland and everything it has to offer.

The news about her return to Auckland was announced on the official site of the event with statements from both Gauff and tournament director Nicolas Lamperin. When it comes to the present, Gauff lost to doubles partner Jessica Pegula at the Canadian Open recently.

She's playing really solid tennis right now so there is a lot of hope for the Cincinnati Masters and the US Open after that.
