After remaining in the Top 50 of the WTA Rankings in 2022 and winning two more matches than last year, Bianca Andreescu made a coaching change.
For the past year, Sven Groeneveld, who coached the likes of Maria Sharapova, Monica Seles, Mary Pierce, Ana Ivanovic, Caroline Wozniacki, and Tommy Haas, accompanied Bianca Andreescu on her climb back to the top of the WTA Rankings.
The Dutch coach wanted to help the player return to her previous form, after she struggled with injuries and bad form only a few months after her sensational 2019 season, during which she managed to win the Canadian Open as well as the US Open.
However, after the Canadian couldn't replicate the success of the 2019 US Open, the Dutch coach announced that they would no longer be working together.
According to Groeneveld's words, it was the Dutch coach who has decided not to extend the collaboration, as he's looking for another opportunities among players on the ATP or the WTA Tour.
"After more than a year of coaching Bianca, I have decided not to extend our collaboration. I am keen on new challenges in the men's or women's game. Wishing Bianca and her team great success going forward."
For Andreescu, search for a new coach will begin, but also search of the old form. Her last tournament shows signs of the old form, when she managed to beat Jil Teichmann and Petra Kvitova, but after that, the Canadian lost to Petra Kvitova.
In 2022, she'll likely compete only at the Billie Jean King Cup, and she'll finished the season around the 50th place in the rankings, similar to her 2021 campaign. That's far from the 5th place that she occupied during the 2019 season, but in 2023, with new coach, Andreescu will want to prove that her 2019 US Open win was no fluke.
