The 2023 San Diego Open brings some more WTA action to the United States, as the tournament runs from September 11th to 16th.
Often, after the last Grand Slam of the season, the tennis world leaves the United States, but that won't be the case in 2023. The San Diego Open will be held after the US Open, and the entry list for the WTA 500 tournament promises a lot of excitement for the fans.
The tournament has been held in October last year, and it was won by Iga Swiatek, but it seems that the Polish player won't defend her title in 2023, as the tournament is played immediately after the US Open, a tournament where she plans to defend her title.
That leaves the San Diego Open in a really vulnerable position, as many players may withdraw from the tournament if they reach the second week at the Flushing Meadows. But for now, the entry list is star-studded and there is a lot to be excited about.
The top name on the entry list is Ons Jabeur, who is last year's US Open finalist. She is followed by Caroline Garcia from France, but the home fans will want to see especially Coco Gauff, who has incredible form and will want to extend it also in San Diego.
The initial cut-off for the tournament is 29th place in the WTA Rankings, signaling that there is a really big interest in competing at the tournament. The likes of Maria Sakkari, Belinda Bencic, Madison Keys, and Veronika Kudermetova also all signed up.
Former world no. 1, Victoria Azarenka also signed up for the tournament, and she should be joined by fellow former Grand Slam champion Jelena Ostapenko. There are really multiple star names set to take part, and to see the full entry list for the 2023 San Diego Open, be sure to check it out below.
