Following the first Grand Slam of the year, the hard court part of the season continues and one of the first events is held in France.
The 2023 Lyon Open will be played at the Palais des Sports Gerland from January 30th through February 5th. The competition had already been played three times when it was won by Sofia Kenin, Clara Tauson, and Shuai Zhang.
This year, the draw is full of interesting names once again, but all eyes will be on world no. 5, Caroline Garcia, who is the top-seeded player at the event, and also the biggest favourite to win the top prize out of 238,455€ distributed in prize money.
The champion of this tournament gets 280 points and 29,760€ in prize money. Everyone is rewarded at WTA 250 events, and so those that lose already in the first round get 1 point and 2,438€.
For the second rounds, players get already 30 points, so there's a lot to play for early on. For the quarterfinal appearance, athletes are rewarded with 60 points and 5,580€. You can see the full prize money and points distribution below.
