2023 Hungarian Grand Prix Budapest Open WTA Entry List - Potapova, Giorgi & more
The entry list for the 2023 Budapest Open, also called the Hungarian Grand Prix, promises a week filled with action.
Running from July 17th to 23rd, one of the clay-court tournaments in the latter stages of the WTA calendar always attracts players that want to improve their rankings or form. As a WTA 250 tournament, the Budapest Open offers a shot at the title to everyone.
Last year, Bernarda Pera used her shot, beating Aleksandra Krunic in the final. This year, the American will be back to defend her title. But she won't be the highest seed at the event as Anastasia Potapova is set to make an appearance.
The Russian promises to bring a high level of competition to the event. The 22-year-old had a strong 2023, scoring significant wins in Stuttgart and Miami and reaching the quarterfinals five times. In 2023, she won her second career title at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz, breaking into the Top 40 for the first time as a result.
Shuai Zhang will be another player competing, with the likes of Sorana Cirstea, Yulia Putintseva, and Anna Kalinskaya joining the action. Camila Giorgi made an interesting decision to play in Budapest instead of a simultaneously played event in her home country in Palermo.
The 2022 Wimbledon semifinalist Tatjana Maria will also compete in Budapest, as the player's field of the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix promises a lot of action.
