2023 Guangzhou Open WTA Entry List - Cirstea, Boulter, Linette & more

| by Nurein Ahmed

The 2023 Guangzhou Open will officially herald the return of Tour-level tennis back on Chinese soil.

For the first time in four years, we'll have tournaments taking place in China, and the 17th edition of the Guangzhou Open will have a new home at the aesthetically built Nansha International Tennis Center. It will be held from September 18th to 23rd on hard courts and it is part of the WTA 250 series.

The tournament was last played in 2019 at the Guangzhou Tianhe Sports Center, where Sofia Kenin won her third title of that season. Unless Kenin takes a late wild card into the tournament, she won't be coming back to Guangzhou.

The draw features a 32-player singles field. Despite a lack of prominent names, Poland's Magda Linette is the highest-ranked player in the draw at No. 24. Linette tends to do well in Asia, winning one of her two career titles in that continent (Hua Hin), and was a finalist in Chennai.

Linette is joined by Romania's Sorana Cirstea, a new member of the world's Top 30 this season, who is the second seed. China's Lin Zhu will look to dazzle in front of her home fans, while German veteran Tatjana Maria will attempt to wreak havoc with her unorthodox style.

Another home crowd favorite Xinyu Wang is also a seed at the tournament. Daria Saville, British No. 1 Katie Boulter, and Linda Fruhvirtova form part of the top eight seeds. Plenty of names will look to win their first WTA title.

One of them is Rebeka Masarova, a finalist on hard courts this season in Auckland, and who scored one of the biggest shocks on day one of the 2023 US Oepn. The likes of Diane Parry, Diana Shnaider, and big-hitting Jule Niemeier might see this as an opportunity to stake their claims too.

There is so much finesse, style, and power in the field in Guangzhou which makes it a very balanced lineup and an open field. To see the full entry list for the 2023 Guangzhou Open, be sure to check it out below.
